Tostones (Plantain Fritters)


A favorite in Caribbean countries. Also known as “patacones” and served either as a side dish and as an appetizer. These can be served by themselves or with a side of “mayoketchup” as it traditionally served in Puerto Rico.


Portions: 4

4 green (un ripen) plantains pealed
Oil to fry (preferably corn or canola oil) 
Salt to taste





Cut 1 ½ inch wide pieces of plantains. Fry in medium heat for 3-5 minutes until golden and cooked.  Remove and place in “tostonera”. Press so they are flat. Fry on high heat for 1-2 minutes until edges are crisp.
