Award winning Chef Maira Isabel is a culinary innovator, trendsetter and leader in the Food Service & Culinary Industry. Maira was named one of Fast Casual Magazine Movers & Shakers in 2017. She is VP of Research and Development for Wild Wing Café and Backyard Burgers, the former Senior Corporate Executive Chef of Subway & former Corporate Executive Chef and VP of Research and Development (R&D) of Schlotzsky's/ FOCUS Brands. Additionally, she worked for Disney Golf as their Executive Chef and was the Puerto Rico Ambassador and Executive Chef at the Epcot (World Disney World) Food and Wine Fest 2014 (EFWF).
Chef Maira spent over 15 years as chef & on-air talent of multiple television shows in networks that include: Telemundo International, Univision, Fox-Utilisima, WIPR (a PBS Station affiliate) and was the Puerto Rico hostess of Bizarre Foods – Travel Channel. Her career has been showcased multiple times in print and on-line publications including Food & Beverage Magazine, Flavors and the Menu, 1851Franchaise.com, Fast Casual, Atlanta Business Journal, Latina Lista, Atlanta Business Chronicle, Atlanta Magazine, Caras, El Nuevo Dia, The San Juan Star, Imagen, Vea, and Buena just to mention a few.
Before joining WWC and BYB, Maira owned CMI Culinary Group and Chef Maira Isabel SVC’s, both culinary & food service consulting firms, where for over 18 years she offered services that include Recipe and Product Development, Public Speaker, Brand Ambassador, Food and Prop Stylist, Food Photography, Food Service and Culinary Professor and Lifestyle & Culinary Reporter. For over two years Maira was partner of Guava Restaurant in paradisiac Culebra, Puerto Rico and she is the former owner of Let’s Cook PR Cooking School. In addition, she is also a bestseller cookbook author; “Gourmet Para Todos Los Días” (Gourmet for Every Day) which was published in 2007. The book went on to be the #1 cookbook in Puerto Rico for more than 10 straight weeks. Additionally, she is the author of a children’s book called “How Angels Become Babies”.
Maira was born into a culturally diverse family coming from Cuba, Venezuela, Spain and Puerto Rico where she grew up and spend her childhood. She is bilingual (English/Spanish) with some knowledge of French, currently learning Portuguese and Italian. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, wines, painting, photography and she collects restaurant menus and it’s the proud owner of over 700 from the around the world.
